It is 2021 and gaming phone brands are gearing up for their next crop of smartphones. Black Shark and Nubia are already building the hype around their upcoming gaming smartphones, and now Asus is jumping into the fray. The Taiwanese company is now teasing the ROG Phone 4 for the primary time, dropping some subtle hints. The Asus ROG Phone 4 is often seen flaunting extremely thin bezels on three sides while rock bottom features a little thickness within the bezel. Asus is promising the next-generation ROG Phone goes to supply an upgraded gaming experience. Its launch is probably going to require a place in Q1 2021.
The teaser shows the phone will have extremely thin bezels
Asus has posted the teaser on Weibo where it’s not mentioned the name of the smartphone, which is why it’s a touch suspicious if the phone is going to be called ROG Phone 4 or ROG Phone 5. The latter seems a touch more likely because the amount “4” isn’t considered auspicious and lucky in Chinese numerology, which is why most companies avoid launching products that bear it. Asus may be a Taiwanese company, so maybe ROG Phone 4 remains possible. I’m unsure now. An Asus device with model number ASUS_I005DA was spotted on Geekbench recently while the ROG Phone 3 model number was ASUS_I003DA. So, you see the pattern here, which is why ROG Phone 5 seems more likely.
The teaser shows a star constellation superimposed on the outline of the Asus ROG Phone 5. But there’s nothing else to travel by within the teaser. Asus is predicted to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor on the ROG Phone 5, which is that the recent one within the flagship line. The primary smartphone that’s powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset is that the Mi 11 while a subsequent wave of those phones will see the launch of Realme Race, Oppo Find X3, and OnePlus 9. The gaming smartphones from Black Shark and Nubia also are widely expected to possess an equivalent chipset inside. The Geekbench listing of the Asus model number revealed the device may have a minimum of 8GB of RAM and run the Android 11 software.
Apart from these chunks of data, there’s not much to travel by as far because the specifications of the Asus ROG Phone 5 are concerned. So let me revisit the specifications of the ROG Phone 3 that was launched in India last year with the powerful Snapdragon 865+ processor.
